Alpacas are sheared once per year and produce one cria per year. This is one of the many reasons alpaca fiber is in high demand and growing in the North American fiber industry. The fiber is highly sought after by a number of “mini-mills”, designer artists who spin and weave, in addition to a national cooperative which collects and processes American Alpaca fiber into rovings, yarn, and finished products such as scarves, hats, socks, suits, capes and custom design products.
